FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A targeted traffic enforcement campaign by the “Z” unit of the Limassol Traffic Police took place yesterday between 3 p.m. and midnight in the Polemidia municipality, resulting in multiple seizures and citations.
During the operation, officers confiscated four motorcycles—one of which was reported stolen—and one car. A total of 33 on-the-spot fines were issued for various traffic offenses.
In one incident, a 19-year-old motorcyclist attempted to evade a police checkpoint. He was riding without a helmet or license plates and accelerated to avoid inspection. While turning left at high speed, he lost control and crashed. He then tried to flee on foot but was apprehended. Police found he was driving without a license, insurance, registration, or helmet, and his vehicle’s road tax had expired. A small quantity of cannabis and a grinder were discovered in his possession, and he tested positive in a preliminary drug test.
In another case, a 16-year-old was stopped while riding a motorcycle with no license plates. The vehicle was immobilized and registered as stolen. The teen had no driver’s license, insurance, or road tax.
A third incident involved a 21-year-old who ran two red lights. He was found to be driving without a license, insurance, registration, or road tax.
Investigations are ongoing by the Limassol Traffic Department.
