FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Police detained 982 people in a citywide security operation aimed at maintaining public order and identifying suspects, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Friday.
Officers conducted checks at 215 locations across Istanbul on Thursday, inspecting more than 320,000 individuals. Among those detained were 539 people wanted for various crimes, authorities said.
Police seized 40 unlicensed pistols, five rifles, 13 other firearms, and 46 cartridges during the operation. A total of 254 public venues were also inspected.
The Istanbul Police Department said security inspections would continue.
