Police are urging the public to remain cautious as a wave of online and mobile scams continues to circulate through text messages, email and WhatsApp, with fraudsters posing as banks, the electricity authority and government agencies.
The warning follows a case reported last week in Limassol, where a company director alerted police after €176,000 in cryptocurrency was stolen from a corporate account. The theft occurred after an employee clicked a phishing email link that triggered unauthorized transfers to unknown digital wallets.
Police say similar scams are increasing and are advising the public to avoid clicking links, sharing personal information or responding to unsolicited messages.
