FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Professional taxi drivers in Cyprus, members of the Pancyprian Federation of Urban Taxis (POAT), staged a four-hour work stoppage in Limassol, warning of nationwide protests if authorities fail to act against industry “piracy.”

Drivers marched from Germasogeia to the Agios Nikolaos roundabout under police escort, briefly blocking traffic at key points, including the old port road.

POAT President Dinos Constantinou criticized inaction against illegal taxi operations facilitated through mobile apps, citing a 40% drop in legal drivers’ turnover despite legislative changes in 2024.

Constantinou warned that if no action is taken within three weeks, taxi drivers will escalate protests nationwide, potentially disrupting operations at ministries, the Presidential Palace, and airports.
