FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The number of refugees and irregular migrants voluntarily leaving Cyprus has been rising steadily, with more departures than arrivals for the first time, Politis reports.
Since 2022, 18,684 individuals have returned to their home countries under a government incentive program providing €1,000 to €1,500 per person, depending on family size.
The amount is equivalent to a year’s salary in nations such as India, Congo, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
When voluntary departures and deportations are combined, 31,343 refugees have left Cyprus since 2022, marking a significant shift in migration trends.
