Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met Friday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, with both sides pledging to deepen cooperation across energy, trade and tourism.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the talks highlighted progress on major Russian projects in Egypt, including the Dabaa nuclear power plant and a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The ministers also vowed to expand tourism by increasing direct flights.

Abdelatty outlined investment opportunities in energy, transportation and logistics, stressing Egypt’s plans for industrial localization and technology transfer.

He said ties with Russia aim to bolster regional security and stability.

Lavrov said the two countries are committed to strengthening their “friendly and multifaceted relations” and building new projects to create sustainable food and fuel supply chains, including for African nations.

He added that both sides agreed to step up foreign policy coordination at the United Nations and other international forums.
