Saudi Arabia has executed 17 people within a span of three days, most of them foreign nationals convicted of smuggling hashish.
The surge brings the total number of executions in the kingdom this year to 239.
Saudi Arabia’s use of the death penalty has long drawn criticism from international human rights organizations. Amnesty International lists the country among the world’s highest in execution rates and regularly calls for greater transparency and legal reforms.
