SBA Police report 12 arrests in ongoing Lady’s Mile, Curium beach operations

Police have made 12 arrests during four weeks of intensified operations on Lady’s Mile and Curium beaches, including the weekend arrest of a 34‑year‑old Bulgarian man for drug possession and carrying offensive weapons, SBA authorities said.

Police said the man, who claimed to be homeless, was driving under the influence of narcotics.

A search of his vehicle uncovered a small quantity of drugs — believed to be for personal use — along with several illegal sharp‑pointed kitchen knives, a scythe and a wooden baton. He was arrested and remanded in custody until a July 6 court appearance.

During the same period, officers reported 20 drivers for minor traffic offenses, issued 60 written cautions for traffic and powerboat violations and referred two individuals to the Akrotiri Area Office for operating without a business licence.

Weekend visitor numbers at Lady’s Mile and Curium exceed 7,000 per day, and Chief Inspector Toby Demetriou said public safety remains the priority.

“Operation Guardian has commenced very positively and is already demonstrating a positive impact,” he said, noting that increased visibility has helped maintain safety and reassure beachgoers.

The SBA Police Marine Unit has also carried out checks on 113 boats and jet skis.
