Second U.S. Fighter Jet Falls Into Red Sea From USS Harry S. Truman

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fell into the Red Sea on Tuesday after failing to engage the arresting wire during landing aboard the USS Harry S. Truman, marking the second such incident in just over a week, according to NBC News.

The aircraft went overboard around 9:45 p.m. local time (0045 GMT). Both aviators safely ejected and sustained minor injuries, U.S. officials said.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the mishap, known as a “failed arrestment.”

The previous incident occurred on April 28, when another F/A-18 Super Hornet from the same carrier fell into the Red Sea.

All personnel were accounted for, and one sailor suffered a minor injury, according to the U.S. Navy.
