Investors on the Shanghai Stock Exchange do not seem to be greatly affected by the trade conflict with the United States, but the main index has fallen slightly on the first trading day after the holiday.
The stock market in the Chinese financial metropolis has been closed for the country’s Lunar New Year holiday, and Wednesday was the first day of trading in about a week. The SSEC index initially moved into positive territory, but then turned lower.

After just over half an hour of trading, it was down 0.5 percent.

President Donald Trump’s announced tariffs on goods from China took effect Tuesday night, and China responded shortly after by imposing a 15 percent tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas, and 10 percent on large cars and agricultural equipment.
