Somalia’s Health Ministry said Sunday that a diphtheria outbreak has killed 50 children and infected about 1,000 nationwide.
Officials said children aged 5 to 15 have been most affected.
The ministry announced a vaccination campaign beginning Dec. 15 and running for five days, targeting children in villages, schools and health facilities.
Parents were urged to bring their children to designated sites to help contain what the ministry described as a “killer disease.”
