MADRID, Spain — Spain has summoned Israel’s chargé d’affaires following reports that Israeli forces boarded vessels carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, AFP reports.
Israel withdrew its ambassador from Spain last year in protest of Madrid’s support for recognizing Palestinian statehood. Since then, the chargé d’affaires has served as Israel’s highest-ranking diplomatic representative in the country.
Spanish officials have not yet disclosed details of the meeting, but the move signals growing diplomatic tension over the Gaza-bound flotilla incident.
