Strong winds disrupted ferry services at the port of Piraeus on Saturday, leaving several ships docked and causing delays for travelers.
No general sailing ban was issued, but some ferry operators canceled scheduled routes because of adverse weather, according to Greek national broadcaster ERT.
The disruption comes as Greece faces a new wave of severe weather marked by gale‑force winds, heavy rain and sharply lower temperatures. Winds in parts of the Aegean and Ionian seas reached up to nine on the Beaufort scale.
Passengers waited at the port with luggage and pets as they sought updates on alternative travel options and departure times.
Two vessels — the Knossos Palace and the Festos Palace — carrying a combined 1,641 passengers were unable to dock at the island of Milos due to the gales. Authorities had not announced a revised timetable for their arrival.
The Knossos Palace was operating the Piraeus‑Milos‑Heraklion route, while the Festos Palace was sailing from Heraklion toward Piraeus.
