One migrant was killed and seven others were missing after a boat partially sank Saturday in the Aegean Sea off the coast of the western port city of Izmir, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.
Yerlikaya said on X that Coast Guard teams rescued 37 migrants from a half‑submerged rubber boat that had taken on water amid severe weather.
Search and rescue operations, supported by a Coast Guard helicopter, continued for the missing, he said.
Video shared by Yerlikaya showed migrants on the vessel waving and calling for help.
Authorities did not immediately release the nationalities of those on board or the boat’s intended destination.
The Aegean Sea remains a major route for migrants attempting to reach Europe from Türkiye, which hosts about 4 million migrants, including Syrians under temporary protection, according to the Interior Ministry.
