FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Swedish authorities are asking residents to capture mosquitoes instead of swatting them, in an effort to help scientists track their spread amid climate change.

Mosquitoes, small but dangerous insects, are known to transmit diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, and West Nile virus.

Their populations are expanding further north as temperatures rise, according to the Norwegian Veterinary Institute (SVA).

“We are particularly interested in mapping mosquitoes found in residential areas, as they pose the greatest risk of spreading infections,” said Tobias Lilja, a researcher at SVA.
