FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Permafrost in the Swiss Alps has reached its highest recorded temperatures, rising by 0.8 degrees Celsius over the past decade, according to a report from the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences.
Temperature increases were recorded in more than 80 percent of boreholes last year, with researchers confirming that 2024 set new records for permafrost warming.
Scientists warn that rising permafrost temperatures could accelerate thawing, potentially increasing rockfalls and landslides in alpine regions.
