Syria’s interim authorities staged one of the largest military parades in recent years on Monday to mark the first anniversary of the country’s political transition.

The event took place along the Mazzeh Highway in western Damascus, where soldiers and military units stretched for nearly three kilometers.

Aircraft performed synchronized paragliding displays over central Damascus as crowds gathered to watch.

Across several Syrian cities, public squares were decorated with banners and flags, and performances were held to commemorate what authorities call the beginning of a new political chapter.

Syria entered a political transition in December 2024 following the collapse of the former government after years of conflict.

Interim leaders say their priorities include national reconciliation, restructuring state institutions, and facilitating the return of refugees and displaced citizens.

Over the past year, public institutions have gradually reopened, services have partially returned in major cities, and diplomatic outreach has expanded.

Still, reconstruction remains a major challenge in war-damaged areas, and security incidents continue along border regions.
