FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar has condemned remarks by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, who criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the unrecognised ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ (TRNC) in a Turkish-language social media post.
In a statement Thursday, Tatar called the comments “deliberate, insolent, and hostile,” accusing them of distorting historical realities.
Tatar accused Israel of attempting to deflect international scrutiny over its military actions in Gaza: “Civilians, women, and children are being brutally killed daily. President Erdoğan’s outspoken stance against this has shattered global silence,” he said.
The ‘TRNC’ is recognized only by Turkey and is not acknowledged as a sovereign state by the United Nations or the broader international community.
The Republic of Cyprus is the internationally recognized government of the entire island.
