A 28‑year‑old Greek Cypriot man was sentenced to nearly three years in prison on June 17 after being arrested last December with 23 kilograms of cannabis.
He was detained in his car in Trachoni during a joint afternoon operation by the Sovereign Base Areas Police and the Cyprus Police Drugs Unit.
He was later found guilty of possession with intent to supply and was taken to HMP Dhekelia to begin serving his sentence.
SBA Police Superintendent Melina Papagregoriou said the punishment should send a strong message to those involved in drug trafficking, adding that drug dealing causes significant harm in local communities and that authorities will continue to pursue offenders with a firm approach.
