FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Tragedy struck Cyprus on Friday as two separate incidents claimed the lives of a baby and an 11-year-old boy.

A baby was found dead inside a car outside a kindergarten in Nicosia around 6 p.m., according to police. The infant was rushed to the General Hospital by ambulance but could not be revived, despite doctors’ efforts. Authorities, who were alerted by the hospital, are investigating the circumstances of the death.

Earlier in the day, an 11-year-old boy succumbed to Beta Influenza at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.

OKYPY spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said the child had been admitted to the hospital on March 12 but his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his transfer to the Intensive Care Unit.

Efforts were made to airlift him to a hospital in Israel for treatment, but despite the medical team’s intervention, the boy passed away on Friday morning.

Health Minister Michalis Damianos has requested a full report on the boy’s death and extended his condolences to the family.
