FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – U.S. President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday, ahead of Pope Francis’ funeral in Vatican City.
A spokesperson from Kiev, quoted by Italian broadcaster Rai News, confirmed the meeting but provided no further details. The White House described the conversation as “productive.”
Media reports indicated that Trump and Zelensky planned to meet again later on Saturday following the funeral.
The meeting comes just a day after Trump suggested that Russia and Ukraine were “very close to a deal,” following discussions between his envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Friday.
