FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday dismissed a European-led diplomatic effort to engage Iran over its conflict with Israel, saying Tehran would only negotiate with Washington.
“Iran will not talk to Europe. They will talk to us,” Trump told reporters outside Air Force One. “Europe is not going to be able to help in this matter.”
His remarks came after top diplomats from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and other EU nations met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Geneva. The talks were aimed at exploring diplomatic channels amid escalating regional tensions.
Araghchi characterized the meeting as “serious and respectful” and said Iran remained open to renewed diplomacy.
