Turkey’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin met Saturday in Istanbul with Hamas Political Bureau member and chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya to discuss implementation of the Gaza cease-fire agreement, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Al-Hayya told Turkish officials that Hamas is adhering to the cease-fire terms and outlined what he described as Israeli violations, Anadolu said, citing anonymous Turkish sources.

The talks focused on Turkey’s role as a guarantor in the agreement and its efforts to ensure the cease-fire holds. The two sides also discussed conditions for moving to the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, including steps to resolve outstanding issues and advance negotiations, according to the report.

Both sides reaffirmed support for Palestinian national reconciliation and the goal of establishing an independent Palestinian state, the sources said.

The next phase of the deal has been stalled for weeks and would require significant concessions from both Israel and Hamas. Hamas would be expected to give up its weapons and control, while Israel would have to allow an international force to assume security responsibilities.
