FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call that Turkey is ready to host peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, his office said Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Erdoğan also spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron, telling him that a “historic turning point” had been reached in efforts to end the war and stressing the need to seize the opportunity.
Putin has proposed direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv without preconditions, starting May 15 in Istanbul. At the same time, he rejected a Western ultimatum calling for a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire.
