FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A high-level meeting focusing on Black Sea security is set to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Naval Forces Command headquarters in Ankara, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced last night.

The gathering will address military planning measures aimed at maintaining peace in the region, particularly in anticipation of a possible ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

While military representatives from various countries are expected to participate, the list of nations has not been disclosed.

This meeting builds on earlier regional cooperation efforts, including the establishment of the Mine Countermeasures Black Sea Task Group in July 2024.

Led by Türkiye in coordination with Romania and Bulgaria, the initiative was launched to counter the threat of drifting sea mines following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Additionally, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday to discuss the Ukraine conflict and ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea, underscoring Türkiye’s role in addressing regional stability.
