FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Iranian authorities have arrested two people in connection with a deadly explosion that killed at least 57 people and injured more than 1,000 at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, state television reported Sunday.

The April 26 blast occurred at a warehouse storing hazardous chemicals, officials said, though the exact cause has not been determined.

Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni blamed “deficiencies, including non-compliance with safety regulations and negligence” for the explosion.

A manager at the port facility and another individual from the private sector were taken into custody, according to state media.

The Shahid Rajaee port, located along the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is Iran’s largest commercial hub. The explosion prompted a government investigation, with officials pledging to hold those responsible accountable.
