FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Germany’s incoming government will tighten border controls to curb illegal immigration, incoming Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said Sunday.
Dobrindt, who leads the Christian Social Union, the Bavarian sister party of the Christian Democratic Union, emphasized that the government would not close the border but would increase scrutiny of arrivals.
“The first decisions will be made when we take over on Wednesday,” Dobrindt told Bild. “They will include stepping up border controls and an increased number of rejections.”
The move comes as Germany’s new coalition government, led by Chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz, prepares to take office.
