Police mounted a strong presence across Cyprus overnight, carrying out organised patrols at key points in urban areas as part of efforts to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and boost public confidence.
Eleven people were arrested during the operation on charges including burglary and illegal possession of property, assault, unlawful residence in the Republic, and various traffic offences.
Officers stopped 504 vehicles for checks overnight and examined 641 occupants. A further 37 checks were carried out on commercial premises to tackle offending, resulting in one complaint being filed.
Traffic checks led to 337 reports for various road offences, with three cases still under investigation. Two vehicles were seized in connection with the checks.
Of the traffic offences reported, 120 involved speeding. Four drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, while two cases of drug-driving were recorded. Police carried out 124 breath tests on drivers and four drug tests.
Police said operations to prevent and combat crime would continue daily, with an enhanced presence, targeted checks and immediate operational response aimed at protecting the public and safeguarding law and order.
