Britain has begun withdrawing personnel from a U.S. military base in Qatar, Sky News reported Wednesday, as regional tensions continue to rise.
The move follows comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who told protesters in Iran that “help is on its way” and warned of “very strong action” against Tehran. Iran has repeatedly threatened to target American military facilities across the Middle East if the United States launches a strike.
The United States has also started removing some staff from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest American military installation in the region.
It remains unclear whether all British personnel will leave the base.
