FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday announced a new defense and trade agreement with the European Union, calling it the start of a “new era” in UK-EU relations following Brexit.
“This is the first summit between the UK and the EU,” Starmer told reporters. “It marks the start of a new era in our relationship, and this agreement is a win-win situation.”
The deal, finalized at a UK-EU summit, aims to strengthen cooperation on trade and security. The UK voted to leave the EU in 2016 and officially exited the bloc in 2020.
Starmer, who leads the Labour Party, opposed Brexit during the referendum campaign.
