The Sovereign Base Areas Administration (SBAA) have said it is fully aligned with measures introduced by the Republic of Cyprus to contain the outbreak of foot‑and‑mouth disease in the Larnaca district.

SBA representatives are participating in coordination meetings at the Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre in Larnaca to ensure real‑time information sharing and consistency in response actions.

After consultations with farmers, local authorities and relevant departments, the SBAs have also introduced precautionary steps, including increased patrols, vehicle checks and additional disinfection points set up in cooperation with Cyprus’ Veterinary Services.

There are currently no confirmed cases within the SBAs.

Dhekelia Area Administration Officer Maria Kyriakidou said the measures are proactive and aim to protect both animal health and the wider community.

“Our teams are working closely with the Veterinary Services and other authorities,” she said, adding that the SBAs remain “actively engaged” in daily coordination meetings.

SBA authorities said suspected breaches are reported to veterinary officials and that outreach continues with local communities and livestock operators to reinforce biosecurity requirements.

As part of the broader containment effort, Cyprus’ Veterinary Services last week vaccinated the indigenous Cyprus Marsh cattle breed in the Akrotiri–Livadhi area within the Western SBAs.
