FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to unveil a plan on Monday aimed at tightening the country’s immigration policies, including stricter language requirements and extended residency periods before migrants can obtain permanent status.
Starmer has vowed to reform the immigration system, saying he wants to “create a system that is controlled, selective, and fair,” according to a report by the BBC.
Under the proposed changes, visa applicants—including dependents of those applying—would face tougher language requirements. Additionally, migrants would need to wait ten years before applying for permanent residence and full welfare benefits, doubling the current five-year requirement.
The announcement marks a significant shift in immigration policy, signaling Starmer’s commitment to reshaping the system to align with his government’s broader agenda.
