FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The British Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Cyprus, Spain, Turkey and Greece as an intense heatwave continues to sweep across parts of the European Union.

In a notice posted on its website, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) warned of extreme temperatures and potential natural hazards across the four countries.

“Greece can experience extreme natural phenomena such as earthquakes, wildfires, extreme heat and flash floods,” the advisory said. Similar warnings were issued for Turkey, where “wildfires happen frequently” in summer and high temperatures are expected in several regions.

In Cyprus, where inland temperatures have already reached 39 degrees Celsius, authorities are issuing severe weather alerts. “The Department of Meteorology of Cyprus issues warnings for severe weather, especially during summer. Weather can sometimes cause travel disruption,” the FCDO noted.

Travelers are advised to monitor local weather updates and follow guidance from local authorities.
