FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Ukrainian border guards have prevented around 45,000 men of military age from leaving the country illegally since the start of Russia’s invasion, a government spokesman said Wednesday.
Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for Ukraine’s border service, told AFP that most men aged 18 to 60 remain barred from traveling abroad without official permission, as the country continues its wartime state of emergency.
Ukraine has reported multiple attempts by men to evade restrictions, with authorities monitoring border crossings and enforcing travel bans.
According to Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical office, about 4.1 million Ukrainians had temporary protection in EU countries in 2024, with adult men making up around 22 percent of the total.
