NICOSIA — A new trilateral meeting between United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of Cyprus, and the Turkish Cypriot leader is expected to take place Saturday, Sept. 27, in New York, according to government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis.
Letymbiotis said the Cypriot government has been approached by the UN regarding the proposed date and responded positively.
He added that if the meeting is confirmed, official announcements will be made by the United Nations.
The upcoming summit was a central topic in Friday’s meeting between President Nikos Christodoulides and UN envoy María Ángela Holguín, Letymbiotis noted.
He emphasized that President Christodoulides reiterated the Greek Cypriot side’s clear commitment to support the Secretary-General’s efforts to resume negotiations from the point where they were last suspended.
