The spokesperson for the UN Secretary‑General, Stéphane Dujarric, said UNFICYP has increased its presence in the Pyla area after confirming an “unauthorized entry of so‑called Turkish Cypriot security personnel” into the buffer zone.
Speaking in New York, Dujarric said peacekeepers have stepped up patrols and are maintaining a visible presence on the ground while closely monitoring developments.
He reiterated that any unauthorized entry, presence or activity inside the buffer zone constitutes a violation of the Mission’s mandate. He added that maintaining calm and stability throughout the buffer zone remains the peacekeeping force’s highest priority.
