The EU will respond to US tariffs on steel and aluminum, says European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a statement.
She said she strongly regretted the US decision to impose tariffs on European exports of steel and aluminium, adding that the EU would act to protect its economic interests. ‘We will protect our workers, businesses and consumers,’ she wrote.
EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic said that the punitive tariffs will lead to increased inflation in the United States.
But he says the EU will work to find a solution with the US as soon as possible.
