FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE -The World Health Organization says at least 99 people have died from malnutrition in the Gaza Strip this year, though the actual number is likely much higher, according to Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Speaking Thursday, Tedros said the confirmed deaths include 64 adults and 35 children, 29 of whom were under the age of five. Gaza’s own health authorities report a higher toll, claiming 197 people have died of starvation since the war began.

In July alone, nearly 12,000 children under five were diagnosed with acute malnutrition, the highest monthly figure ever recorded in the enclave. Of those, more than 2,500 were found to suffer from severe acute malnutrition, the most life-threatening form.

The United Nations has warned that famine conditions are unfolding across Gaza, citing widespread food shortages, restricted humanitarian access, and the collapse of essential services.
