A total of 12 flights to and from Cyprus and roughly 4,000 passengers were affected by the technical malfunction in the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR), according to a source from Hermes Airports, the operator of Cyprus’ airports.
Airlines operating flights that would normally pass through Greek airspace on their way to Cyprus adjusted their flight plans, rerouting aircraft to avoid the Athens FIR.
Meanwhile, several Cypriot travelers remain stranded at Athens International Airport, unable to secure a flight back to Cyprus today.
