The Fire Service has concluded its investigation into the deadly fire that broke out on Sunday in the Agios Nikolaos area of Limassol, claiming the life of 33-year-old Menelaos Christodoulides.

According to Fire Service Spokesperson Andreas Kettis, a three-member team of certified investigators conducted the investigation alongside the Fire Service Operations Office, Police, and Electromechanical Service.

The findings indicate that the fire was likely caused by a naked flame, possibly from a cigarette butt, which ignited a carpet and subsequently spread to other flammable materials and clothing in the room where Christodoulides was found.

Kettis added that the fire maintained a very low intensity due to a lack of oxygen in the room, producing several toxic fumes which led to Christodoulides’ death.

Upon the introduction of oxygen, the fire intensified, causing the complete destruction of the room.
