FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – All three major indexes on the New York Stock Exchange fell significantly after President Donald Trump announced that tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico would be imposed.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones was down 1.5 percent, while the S&P fell 1.8 percent. The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 2.6 percent.
The decline began in earnest after Trump stated in the afternoon that there was no longer room for negotiations with Canada and Mexico, and that the 25 percent tariff would take effect on Tuesday.
