Cyprus has approved a national plan to curb hospital infections and antimicrobial resistance, the health minister said Thursday.
Neophytos Charalambides said the Cabinet endorsed the strategy on Dec. 16, requiring infection‑control committees and antibiotic stewardship teams in all hospitals. Data will be reported through the BIOCARE electronic platform.
He noted Cyprus has among the EU’s highest antibiotic use and resistance rates, calling the measures urgent for patient safety. The ministry also launched a public campaign with the slogan “Prevention is in our hands.”
