Spain faced worsening weather conditions Friday as a storm front moving in from the west brought heavy rain, strong coastal winds and snowfall at lower elevations, the national weather agency said.

Orange alerts were in place in Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia and the Basque Country because of hazardous coastal conditions, while Castilla y León and Andalusia were under yellow warnings for snow and rain, according to Aemet.

The agency said low‑pressure systems will spread instability across much of the country through the weekend, with widespread rainfall and snow not only in mountain areas but also at lower altitudes. Temperatures will drop to levels typical of mid‑winter.

“The coming days will be dominated by low pressure, with successive storms and fronts bringing rain to large areas of the country and snow even at relatively low elevations,” Aemet spokesman Rubén del Campo said.
