The presence of military forces from several European countries in Cyprus is a precautionary measure within the framework of the Republic’s strategic cooperation with partners such as France, Greece, Italy and Spain, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said Tuesday.
Speaking on the state broadcaster’s morning program, Letymbiotis stressed that the deployments aim to strengthen operational readiness during a period of regional instability.
He reiterated that there is no indication Cyprus is being targeted, noting that the two confirmed incidents involved the British base at Akrotiri.
Regarding the status of the British Bases, Letymbiotis said the issue will be evaluated at a later stage, not while authorities are managing an ongoing regional crisis.
