President Nikos Christodoulides will meet UN Secretary‑General António Guterres on March 18 in Brussels, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said.
The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the European Council summit. Letymbiotis stressed that the encounter reflects Christodoulides’ clear and consistent political will to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue.
He added that the meeting also underscores Guterres’ continued interest in the process at a time of significant geopolitical developments.
Letymbiotis reiterated that the Greek Cypriot side remains ready to resume talks from the point they were interrupted at Crans‑Montana in 2017, on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality as defined in UN resolutions, and with full respect for the acquis of the previous negotiating process.
He also said the Greek Cypriot position remains that a broadened meeting under the UN secretary‑general could help unlock substantive progress.
