Cyprus counted 55,367 state employees in March, a marginal increase of 42 people, or 0.1%, compared with the same month last year, according to the Statistical Service.

Employment fell in the Public Service and the Security Forces by 0.8% and 0.7% respectively, while the Education Service recorded a 1.8% rise.

Among all categories, the largest increase was among indefinite‑term employees, up 1.7% from March 2025. The sharpest decline was among fixed‑term staff, down 2%. Within the Security Forces, fixed‑term employees dropped 85.9%, a fall attributed mainly to the expiration and non‑renewal of specific contracts in July 2025.

For January through March, average state employment rose 0.2% from the same period a year earlier.

The figures cover the Public Service, the Education Service and the Security Forces, and include permanent, indefinite‑term, fixed‑term and hourly staff.
