Police are investigating a new case of online fraud and the theft of a large sum of money, carried out by scammers sending text messages that appear to come from the national health system, Gesy.
According to a complaint filed with the Paphos CID, a 60‑year‑old man received a text message on April 28, 2026, showing Gesy as the sender. The message claimed his Gesy profile required an upgrade and directed him to a website.
He visited the site, where he was asked to enter his personal information and bank account details, supposedly to pay a fee required to complete the profile upgrade. After submitting the information, the scammers withdrew 48,000 euros from his bank account.
Authorities remind the public that the Health Insurance Organization will never request passwords, login details, payment information or any other data via SMS, nor will it ask citizens to carry out financial transactions through links.
