EU gives Cyprus positive first review under new migration‑asylum rules

The European Commission has issued a positive initial assessment of Cyprus’ implementation of the EU’s new responsibility‑sharing rules under the Migration and Asylum Pact, concluding the country does not require special monitoring.

The evaluation follows the entry into force of the new framework on June 12 and reviews early progress among member states facing heightened migration pressures.

Spain also received a positive assessment, with the Commission noting no operational issues in its cooperation with other EU countries.

Greece and Italy, however, remain under closer scrutiny.
