Cyprus brings alleged terror recruiter back from abroad in Governor’s Beach case

Cyprus authorities have advanced their investigation into a suspected terrorism plot, a case that began on May 21 when police raided a house at Governor’s Beach used as a laboratory and rented by a 32‑year‑old Palestinian political refugee.

A second search at his family’s apartment in Kamares, Larnaca, uncovered additional evidence.

Two other Palestinians, ages 38 and 54, were later arrested. All three remain in custody at the Central Prison and are set to stand trial Aug. 6 before the Permanent Criminal Court in Larnaca.

Officials said the man believed to have recruited the suspects and met them during trips abroad was transferred to Cyprus late Friday from a third country. Investigators had identified him during the suspects’ detention and were in contact with foreign services, which alerted them to his location and arrest earlier in the week. Police officers traveled abroad and escorted him back under heavy security.

The suspect appeared in court Saturday morning and was ordered held for eight days. Authorities in several countries, including Greece, have expressed interest in his arrest.
