AEL advanced to the quarterfinals of the Coca‑Cola Cup on Wednesday, defeating Omonia 2–1 after extra time in a tense match at GSP Stadium that included two disallowed goals for offside.
AEL had a goal by Savo ruled out for offside in the 53rd minute, while Omonia responded with a close‑range effort from Jovetić that Ochoa saved. Jovetić later struck the post as Omonia increased the pressure.
Against the run of play, Natel put AEL ahead in the 78th minute with a long‑range strike.
Omonia forced extra time with an equalizer from Maé in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Both sides created chances in the additional period, but AEL secured the win in the 115th minute when Maseko dribbled past three defenders and beat Uzoho for 2–1.
